One of the most important acts of worship in Islam is the Hajj, which symbolizes a Muslim’s obedience and devotion to Allah. But not every Muslim is able to personally fulfill this requirement because of health issues, getting older or other limitations. Islam offers a solution for these situations called Hajj Badal, in which a third party does the Hajj on behalf of the person who is unable to do it. This article explains what Hajj Badal is, what it involves, and where Qurbani Easy stands on this service today.

Hajj Badal is an Islamic custom in which someone who is unable to make the journey individually has a third party, or agent, execute Hajj on their behalf. This practice, which has its roots in Islamic tradition and legal scholarship, gives every Muslim the chance to fulfil this essential Islamic principle, even if they are unable to do so for themselves due to financial or physical limitations.

The permissibility of Hajj Badal is supported by Hadith. Ibn Abbas reported that a woman from the tribe of Juhaynah came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, “My mother had vowed to perform Hajj but she died before she could fulfil it. Should I perform Hajj on her behalf?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, “Yes, perform Hajj on her behalf” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1852).

Original Person’s Incapacity: The person for whose behalf the Hajj is being performed must be truly unable to travel because of a long-term illness, advanced age, or death.
Eligibility of the Proxy: A responsible adult Muslim who has already completed their own mandatory Hajj should serve as the substitute.
Intention: The person using a proxy must expressly state that they are doing the Hajj on behalf of the named individual (niyyah).
