In Islamic tradition there are many types of offerings. Each type has a different formula and approach. These two types of offerings are Aqeeqah Qurbani and Sadaqah Qurbani. For the baby’s intestines, it is Sunnah to sacrifice a saw or two geese. For girls a saw or one goat is recommended. These animals must meet the same criteria used in Qurbani during Eid al-Adha. This includes being free from blemishes and according to age.

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “For the boy, two sheep are sacrificed, and for the girl, one sheep.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, 3163)

Distribution of the Meat

The income from the Aqeeqah offering is divided into three parts: one third for the family; one-third for the poor and a third for the poor. This department reflects the spirit of sharing and fellowship in Islam.

A noteworthy verse is: “An example of a person who uses his wealth in the cause of Allah is it is like a rice field that has been growing for seven years. Each year there are one hundred seeds. Allah increases the sustenance of whomever He wills. and Allah is everything -Embracing and covering all.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261)

Animal for Sadaqah Qurbani

There are no strict guidelines for the number of animals or types of animals in Sadaqah Qurbani. As is the case with Aqeeqah, however, these animals must meet the basic criteria for Qurbani animals, namely being healthy.
