About Sadqah

Originally derived from the Arabic word Sidq (sincerity or truth), Sadqah is a voluntary act of charity, fi sabillilah (for the cause of Allah s.w.t.). Sadqah covers any act of charitable done out of kindness, love, friendship or generosity. It can be given to anyonei.e family, friends, the poor, the homeless and others who are in a state of need. It has no limits or rules. A person also does not have to be rich to give Sadqah.

Types of Sadaqah

Sadqah comes in various forms, despite the misconception that Sadqah has to be given in the form of money only. However, a person can give Sadqah by praying (making dua) for someone, spreading knowledge to those who cannot afford it, giving advice, visiting the sick and even smiling at people.

line

“Allah will deprive usury of all blessing but will give increase for deeds of charity: for He loves not creatures ungrateful and sinner.” (Qur’an, 2: 276)

“That which you give in usury for increase through the property of (other) people, will have no increase with Allah: but that which you give for charity, seeking the countenance of Allah, (will increase); it is those who will get a recompense multiplied.” (Qur’an, 30:39)

“When a man passes away, his good deeds will also come to an end except for three: Sadqah Jariyah (continual charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)”

Narrated by Abu Hurairah, Sahih Muslim

“Whoever sacrifice his animal for sacrifice with a satisfied heart hoping rewards from Allah; this will save him/her from the hell fire.” Tabarani
