Quick Answer: Living in an apartment changes how Eid ul Adha works: no space for an animal, shared walls and stairs, and neighbours of different faiths. This guide gives a practical checklist for families and for neighbours. It makes no religious ruling; for rulings, follow the linked guides.

A flat in a large city has no courtyard, and many societies have rules about animals on the premises. Families still want to fulfil their Qurbani on the right days, and neighbours want a calm festival. These points apply either way.

Before Eid: three checks

  • Know your society’s rules. Rules differ by society and by state; check your society’s bye-laws and local law, and ask the committee if unsure.
  • Decide how your Qurbani will be done. If you cannot arrange the animal yourself, you can appoint someone to perform it on your behalf (a wakil); see our guide to appointing a wakil for Qurbani.
  • Know the days. The start and the end of the days of Qurbani are in days and time of Qurbani; the date depends on moon sighting.

On Eid day: courtesy for neighbours

  • Keep common areas, lifts and stairs clean; wrap and dispose of waste properly.
  • Keep noise low early in the morning and late at night.
  • Share greetings and sweets with neighbours of every faith; Eid is a festival for the whole building.
  • If you receive guests, tell the committee if the car park or common hall will be busier than usual.

If you book Qurbani online

Booking through Qurbani Easy means no animal comes to your building. You choose the option on the Qurbani page, write the name(s) for the Qurbani, and pay securely; once the moon is sighted and the date is confirmed we inform you of the date of your Qurbani, and you receive a confirmation email when it is completed, plus what your option includes (video, photographs or a completion update). The meat is 100% distributed to people in need. Qurbani Easy does not accept payment from outside India; a family member or relative in India can complete the booking and payment on your behalf.
